Retirees increasing Arizona population
It’s no surprise that so many would choose to retire in Arizona. With our over 300 days of sunshine, wonderful community amenities, and award-winning health care facilities, it’s no wonder so many Arizona retirees are happy living in the Valley of the Sun. As a result, retirees are increasing the Arizona population according to one Arizona State University economist.
Both the U.S. Census Bureau and the Office of Employment and Population Statistics show the state’s population grew by more than 1.4 percent in the past year, and estimates show there were 6,828,065 people living in the state as of July 1, 2015. And what is really driving the population growth in Arizona is people moving here from elsewhere.
“There’s an awful lot of Baby Boomers retiring now, and will be for the next number of years,” economist Tom Rex of the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University explained.
At one time Arizona was the fastest-growing state in the nation when it added 213,311 people during a twelve month period back in 2006. And with the rate of Baby Boomers and transplants retiring to Arizona, perhaps we can reach those growth numbers again in 2016.
