About Tolleson Arizona: is a self-contained community,10 miles west of downtown Phoenix and measures about six square miles. W.G. Tolleson of South Carolina founded the town in 1912. Tolleson measures about six square miles and was incorporated in 1929. Once dependent on agriculture, Tolleson today has a strong commercial and industrial base.
Tolleson Arizona has a prime location along a major transportation corridor. Tolleson is served by the Papago Freeway, which is a segment of Interstate 10. The Union Pacific rail line runs through Tolleson, providing a number of industrial sites with rail access. Air transit is accomplished through the nearby Phoenix-Goodyear Municipal Airport and Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport, located approximately 20 - 25 minutes away.
The Tolleson Elementary District and the Tolleson Union High School District serve the City of Tolleson. Estrella Mountain Community College also serves Tolleson, and nearby ASU West in Glendale provides Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral programs in a variety of disciplines. Glendale Community College and the Thunderbird American Graduate School of International Management are also located in nearby Glendale.
Tolleson Arizona has become a strong distribution hub for companies wishing to deliver products to southwestern markets. Nearby parks & recreation: Estrella Mountain Regional Park has 19,840 acres of desert and mountains became the first regional park in the Maricopa County Park System in 1954. Located near the meeting of the Gila and Agua Fria Rivers in the southwest Valley, the park includes a large wetland, or riparian, area. The majority of the park remains pristine desert, very similar in appearance to the landscape seen by the first settlers and explorers. The Sierra Estrella range, or Star Mountains, was once within the Mexican border, and remained so until the Gadsden Purchase in 1853.
